How to do it
When a notification interrupts you, swipe it left on the Lock Screen or in Notification Center. Tap Options, then choose whether to mute that app for one hour or for the rest of the day. The exact wording can vary slightly by iOS version and app.
This is useful for apps that are temporarily too loud: shopping, news, delivery, social media, or games. You do not need to open Settings, find the app, change notification permissions, and remember to undo everything later.
Why it helps
You deal with the interruption at the moment it happens. That keeps your focus intact without permanently switching off every notification from the app.
The advantage over disabling notifications completely is simple: after the short mute period, normal behavior returns. For a meeting, a work block, or family time, it is a cleaner move than a full notification purge.
Be careful with critical apps
Do not use this blindly for calendar alerts, banking, security codes, family contacts, or work tools where a fast response matters. If an important app keeps interrupting you, adjust its notification style deliberately in Settings > Notifications instead.
Clean it up later
If you keep muting the same app, treat that as a signal. Later, open Settings > Notifications, choose the app, and reduce banners, sounds, or Lock Screen alerts permanently. Temporary muting is the quick fix; Settings is the long-term cleanup.
