How to set the limit
Open Settings and go to Battery. Tap Charging or Charging Optimization. If your iPhone supports the feature, choose a limit such as 80%, 85%, or another value that fits your routine.
On newer iPhones, Apple shows this as a direct charge limit. On older models, you may only see Optimized Battery Charging. That is not the same setting, but it can still help your phone avoid sitting fully charged longer than necessary.
Why it helps your battery
Lithium-ion batteries age faster when they spend a lot of time at 100%. A charge limit keeps your iPhone from filling all the way up every time, even when you do not need the full capacity for a normal day.
This is most useful if your iPhone stays plugged in overnight, at your desk, or in the car for long stretches. You give up a little maximum runtime, but you reduce unnecessary battery stress in your daily charging pattern.
When to switch it off
Before travel, long events, or days without reliable access to power, 100% is simply more practical. Raise or disable the limit temporarily, then switch it back when your normal routine returns.
If you already drain your iPhone nearly every day, an 80% limit may be too strict. Pick a higher limit if available, or use the setting mainly during weeks when you spend more time near a charger.
What to watch for
Apple does not offer the exact same charging options on every iPhone or every iOS version. Look under Battery > Charging and use the best option your device provides.
After a few days, check whether the limit still gets you comfortably through the day. If you keep needing emergency top-ups, the value is too low. A good charging limit should make battery care automatic, not annoying.
