Set up one simple box
Choose a sturdy box, write today's date on it, and put it somewhere out of the way. This box is for the items that slow you down: spare cables, decor, kitchen gadgets, clothes, small gifts, chargers, accessories, or anything you keep touching without deciding.
Use it while you clear the room
When an item takes more than 20 seconds to decide on, place it in the Maybe Box. You are not throwing it away. You are starting a test. The box stays closed. If you genuinely need something, take it back out. If three months pass and you never missed it, the decision becomes much easier.
Why it works
Decluttering often stalls because every object asks for a tiny emotional decision. The Maybe Box removes that friction. You keep making visible progress, but you avoid rushed choices that might create regret. It is a practical pause button with a deadline, not a hidden pile of procrastination.
Keep the rule clear
Do not use this for important documents, expensive items, sentimental keepsakes, or anything with legal or financial consequences. Those deserve a separate review. Use the box for ordinary household items where the real question is simple: do you actually use this, or are you only keeping it because deciding feels annoying?
