Safari Trick: Share a Link That Jumps to the Exact Text You Want

TL;DR
Want to point someone to a specific passage in an article? Safari can create links that jump straight to your highlighted text – marked in yellow.

Safari Trick: Share a Link That Jumps to the Exact Text You Want

How to do it (Mac)

  1. Open a webpage in Safari.
  2. Select the text you want to share.
  3. Right-click (or Ctrl+Click) the selection.
  4. Choose "Copy Link with Highlight".
  5. Send the link via email, WhatsApp, or wherever you like.
  6. The recipient clicks β†’ lands right at the text, which is highlighted in yellow.

How to do it (iPhone/iPad)

On iPhone it works the same way: select text β†’ tap "Copy Link with Highlight" in the context menu. Available from iOS 18+.

Why this helps

  • No more "read the whole article" – you point to the exact spot.
  • Safari creates a special URL with a Text Fragment (#:~:text=...).
  • The recipient's browser automatically scrolls to the passage and highlights it.
  • Works even if the recipient uses Chrome, Edge, or Firefox.

Good to know

  • Doesn't work in PDFs.
  • Requires Safari 18+ (macOS Sequoia) or iOS 18+.
  • Perfect for: sharing research, giving feedback on specific passages, quickly linking quotes.
