TL;DR
Strip GPS data from photos before sharing them so the place where they were taken stays private.
Remove the location from one photo
- Open the photo in the Photos app.
- Swipe up to show the photo details.
- Tap Adjust next to the location.
- Choose No Location.
Hide the location only while sharing
- Tap Share.
- Open Options at the top of the share sheet.
- Turn off Location.
- Share the photo only after that setting is disabled.
Why it matters
Photos can contain GPS coordinates. If you share the original file, someone may be able to see where it was taken, including your home, a school, or a holiday address.
Good to know
For sensitive images, also check visible clues such as street signs, window views, license plates, or text on screens. Removing metadata only handles hidden location data.
