Found an iPhone? Siri Knows Who It Belongs To

TL;DR
Ask Siri "Whose iPhone is this?" β€” even on a locked device. It shows the owner's contact info, making it easy to return. Here's how to set it up for your own iPhone too.

Found an iPhone? Siri Knows Who It Belongs To

How to find the owner

  1. Activate Siri β€” hold the side button or say "Hey Siri" (works without unlocking).
  2. Ask: "Whose iPhone is this?"
  3. Siri displays the owner's contact information (if configured).
  4. Contact the owner β€” done.

Set it up for your own iPhone

  1. Open Settings β†’ Siri & Search β†’ My Information.
  2. Select your own contact from the Contacts app.
  3. Make sure it includes an alternative phone number or email (not the iPhone's own number β€” that phone is the one that's lost).
  4. Tip: Add your partner's number or a landline.

Why this works

Siri can show certain information without unlocking β€” including your "My Information" card. Apple designed this intentionally so finders can reach you. Your sensitive data (photos, messages, apps) stays locked.

Good to know

  • Requirement: Siri must be enabled and "My Information" must point to your contact.
  • Bonus: Also enable Find My β€” it lets you display a message on the lock screen and track the device.
  • Privacy: You control what's in your contact card. Less is more β€” one phone number is enough.
  • Works on all iPhones with Siri (virtually every current model).
