Start with these 7 features
- Press the Digital Crown twice to switch quickly between recently used apps.
- Press the side button, open Control Center, and tap the iPhone icon to ping your iPhone. Press and hold it if you also want the flash to blink.
- Tap the screen during the workout countdown if you want to skip the three-second delay.
- Go to Settings -> Sounds & Haptics and set haptics to Prominent if you often miss alerts.
- In long lists, tap the time at the top of the screen to jump back to the beginning.
- Customize Control Center: press the side button, scroll down, choose Edit, and move the controls you actually use to the top.
- In the Watch app on your iPhone, go to Messages -> Default Replies and add your own short replies.
Why this helps
The Apple Watch is not a tiny iPhone. It is best at micro-actions: stop something, find something, confirm something, reply quickly, or clear a distraction. Once these gestures are muscle memory, you reach for your iPhone less often and get back to what you were doing faster.
Settings worth changing
In the Watch app on your iPhone, switch App View to List View if the app grid feels messy. Move useful Control Center buttons upward. And rewrite your message replies around real life: On my way, Call you back, or Works for me usually beat the generic suggestions.
Good to know
Some features depend on your watchOS version and Apple Watch model. Gestures such as Wrist Flick or newer Notes features are not available everywhere. If a tip is missing on your watch, check the watchOS update, your model, and the Watch app on your iPhone first.
